Project "The Guardian" - 17000 DKK

is a wood sculpture designed to explore the profound bond between nature and its inhabitants. Carved from a single oak trunk, the piece depicts a majestic bear—a symbol of raw power and ancient wisdom—cradling a fragment of the earth (represented as a jagged ice floe or a piece of rugged land) within its paws.The sculpture aims to utilize the verticality of the 180 cm oak trunk to emphasize the bear’s monumental presence. While the bear's form represents strength and resilience, the act of holding the object close to its chest suggests a deep sense of vulnerability and the urgent need for protection.I intend to work with the natural grain and texture of the oak to create a contrast between the heavy, powerful musculature of the bear and the delicate, detailed edges of the object it protects. By bringing this form to life in Højer, I want to invite viewers to reflect on our role as "guardians" of the environment and the fragile ecosystems we are bound to preserve
